West Bridgford just to the south of the city is considered by many as the posh area of Nottingham. The main high street (Central Avenue) has lots of twee shops, restaurants and wine bars, as well as a variety of chain stores. There’s also a popular farmers market on the morning of the second and fourth Saturday in the month. And for lovers of real ale, there are some fine pubs.

Stratford Haven, 2 Stratford Road

A traditional looking exterior leads into a long, looping bar that opens up at the back and then on into a beer yard. A large food menu covers everything from snacks to full meals. The real ale range is impressive, with three or four from the local Castle Rock brewery supplemented by three or four guest beers.

This is considered a bit of a beer mecca by local Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) folks and is well worth a visit.
